Playful or Weird

So, people say i play too much? yea yea .... The other day, i was saying something really serious about a colleague of mine walking through the glass, and every one thought i was lying until he came himself to give them the full gist... Whatever!!!

Some others say i can form? Ok thats so not true. Well messing with you, i am just someone people need to understand. Wo, i dont know jor .

Enough of trying to justify me.

In other unreleated news, I'm so in love with The Cranberries at the moment. .. Its so unbelievable. And to think my brother was a fan in 2003? It was so awkward waking up to The Cranberries playing every morning when every other family wakes up to morning devotions....

So exactly nine years after, my colleague Osagie hooks me up with the CD.... Ooooh sorry, he actually didn't hook me up like that.... I come into the office, and dude is there listening with head phones listening to something i cant pinpoint.... "Sup Osagie" i mumble... "Hey Hey Nike, how was your weekend" he replies. 'Was alright, cant complain"... Then i grab the CD on his table.... "OOH, The Cranberries, can i rip"... "Why not?, when i'm done, i'd pass it on"...

So thats the story.... From ripping it to my system, the CD is in my car now, and the songs are on my phone.. For easy access....

Please remind me to thank Osagie on twitter for a CD he hasn't given me yet... Weird yea? Everyone that gets into the car i call mine can like to sing along when i'm screaming "In your head, in your head, zombie zombie zombie zombie......."

So Life as i know it is gradually changing.

And ooh, in other related but scattered news, i love my BB like crazy. Since i got my first pair in August 2008, there's been no looking back. So my colleague Anita is mad at the fact that i have like 300 and something contacts on BBM. In her words, "What is it for please"?

Moving on my friend Bambo pings me and says "Nike, Taiwo is getting married", i'm like waoh... Really, thats cool. Then she goes on and on about me buying Aso Ebi and things.. Long story short, i never hear anything till today... Good/ Bad? Hmmmn. .. I no know o... Lool

Then my really good friend ..... Make i no call her name.... Lol (she's so incharge of getting my jackets, so i don't want to vex and tell me to look for where to shop for jacket in Naija, so i won't) says to me on BB.

So i follow up BBM style. Yesterday, she hits me up

Ok, so i'm seriously thinking of changing my name to Victory....

There's been so much to say, but then no one to talk to ...

I think i'd just probably say it in a very diplomatic way. Last week has been one decision making for me, you know the sort of decision where your friends, family, colleagues cant make for you?

So at some point, i decided to sample people's opinon, and then i realise something- The more i ask, thr more confused that i get. Sure feels like some decision yea?

But then, on Sunday, im at Global Harvest Church, somewhere my sister has convinced me more than a million times to attend (Well thats an exaggeration, but please get used to it o), and there is a line i pick up from the chior "I know my identity, my name is victory"

... So my decision is not made but then i know that whatever decision i make, it doesnt change who i am ... I am adopting the name Victory. So *in Wizkid's voice" if you see me drive by, Holla Victory

Come July 2010, MTV VJ, Cynthia Okpala will kick off a new show on MTV base!

Titled MTV base.IQ Sweetened by Buttermint, the new Programme is a quiz show aimed at setting musicians, DJs, sports stars and celebrities against die- hard music fans. The project according to MTV base spokesperson “will be the ultimate trial of Nigerian youths’ music know-how and the latest ‘street’ culture

Recorded in various campuses, neighborhoods and local spots around Lagos, Base IQ’s major aim is to give young Nigerians the chance to represent where they come from by putting their musical knowledge to test how well do they know their favourite music stars? How well can they rock the mic and work the stages? How well do they even understand the music scene?

“I can’t wait to get out on the road with Base IQ,’’ Cynthia says. ‘’ Seeing celebrities compete with music fans in a test of their music knowledge will be riveting television entertainment. Can you beat your music heroes at their own game? – that will be a sweet victory indeed!” she concluded.

Cynthia ‘C-Von’ Okpala is MTV’s only Nigerian VJ. The 24-year old computer science graduate from Ebonyi State University first came to public attention after winning the MTV & MTN VJ Search in Nigeria in November 2007.

Although these days, Cynthia’s contract with MTV base has taken her all over the continent including recent trips to Nairobi and South Africa, Miss Okpala is always keen on applying her talents in new directions. She currently combines her MTV duties with high profile gigs as a radio DJ and actress, co-hosting the ‘MTN Yellow Top 10 Countdown’ which is syndicated on 40 radio stations across Nigeria and starring on the MNET series 'Tinsel' as “Ify”

Mike Aremu is ready to serenade us once again at the second edition of sax appeal.
The ever-growing entertainer who has been with us since 1999 will be on stage with his band at the Shell hall of Muson Centre on July 24 2010 to perform to an audience that cuts across different walks of life.

There are reports promoter Sheila Okonji's KidzTrust has secured the exclusive rights to produce the most powerful international music phenomenon of the decade - High School Musical- in Nigeria.

High School Musical is an original production of DISNEY; with a Guinness Book of world records entry for having 9 concurrent no 1 hit singles from its soundtrack.

Sources say the Nigerian production will be executed by a full Nigerian cast and crew.

No details have been announced for now, but those close to the organisers say 'work is going on rapidly', and auditions to find Nigeria's Gabrielle and Troy may start 'soon'.

At a time when everyone thought the organizers will be resting on their Oars after the completion of yet another successful edition of their annual “Hiphopworld Awards”, the Organizers last week made it public that an all girl show “Girl’s Nite out” is the next project on their calender.

Already an all female team has been put in place. “Every single thing will be done by Girls including designing the stage, video and sound production, producing and directing of the show, security, just name anything” A member of the team who pleaded anonymity disclosed last week

Girls Nite out, a forum for discovering female talents as well as celebrating womanhood is targeted at making a statement that “what a man can do, a woman can do better”

2009, is gradually coming to an end, and to think that when i started blogging nine months back, it was with an intention to update everyday. well, i guess that is shame on me for not being consistent.

Well, that is not to say that the Nigerian music scene is in a luke warm state. The industry has clearly been booming with activities from all nook and crannies.

First and foremost, the NMVA nomination list was released on Sunday, October 4, 2009. The awards ceremony which is scheduled to hold on November 1, 2009 has heavy weighters like Darey Art Alade, Keffe and MI as major contenders

Also, there are reports that Mr. Capable Banky W is working on the video for 'Lagos party' the 2nd video off his second album 'The W experience'.

its no longer news that Kelly Hansome's new track (Igwe Kom Kom) was directed at Sex Icon Dbanj, Debutant Wande coal and rave of the moment Terry G. The track which became popular amongst the internet audience last week lashes out at the trio. Kelly Hansome spits at the beginning of the track, 'Yes i be Arsenal, you be Man U, no wonder you look like a Malu' confronting Wande Coal with no apologies.

There are also talks of an all girl's night out by Smooth promotions, the publishers of Hiphopworld magazine, organisers of hiphopworld awards and producers of Hip On TV. Yes, im finally updating, and Yes, it took the death of an icon for me to do that.

There is no doubt that i have been online for a while now visiting Entertainment websites, blogs, Facebooking and recently tweeting ( Just so you'd be sure that the sole reason i have not been blogging is not that im not broke) lol.

Ok, in the past 2 weeks that i have been tweeting, i have learnt alot, and i know that a tweet travels faster than you can imagine. In the words of Steven Johnson of Time Magazine 'The speed with which users have extended Twitter's platform points to a large truth about mordern innovation'.

To a large extent, this is more than true- it only took a tweet which read- MJ has been rushed to the hospital, he is in coma. that man had better not die' for my antennas to rise, and then within 5 minutes, the whole word on twitter was on Michael Jackson until he finally gave up at exactly 2.26pm on June 25, 2009.

The pop icon died at the age of 50 which is the reason why i have taken today off tweeter and Black berry messenger to create 50 different things about the world's most famous man on earth.

JIMMY JATT’S BATTLE FIELD SET TO KICK OFF

The auditions for DJ Jimmy Jatt's battlefield kicks off in Lagos on April 15, 2009 at The place, GRA, Ikeja, and it starts with the DJ battle, followed closely by the ‘rap battle’ which will be in May, and then in June, it will be the ‘Dance battle’.

‘We do different competitions every month and a winner emerges to qualify for the grand finale at the end of the year. Anybody that wins in each month gets between N200, 000 and N400, 000. ‘‘I’m glad to tell you, brothers and sisters, that our new album is ready’’, Lagbaja said in Lagos this week. ‘‘The world is going through different challenges right now, but the journey continues. We’ll continue to make good music and preach the gospel of Africa to the rest of the world’’.

Lagbaja’s debut album was released in 1993. He followed with Cest Un African Thing in 1996, and in 2000 he did what was hitherto thought impossible when he dropped a three-in-one album titled ME, WE and ABAMI respectively. The simultaneous three-part release further enriched his repertoire of hits and timeless pieces, endeared him to even more critics, and won him a million-and-one converts. His most recent album – Africano… the mother of groove- was released to critical acclaim in 2005.

Once again, Lagbaja is releasing more than one album simultaneously. ‘‘We have two CDs coming out this time. Our fans deserve it, especially having waited for this long’’, He said. A third, the long-anticipated Africano Party (now remixed) will follow later in the year.

Her first album Simply Weird’ was Nigeria’s first full-length rap album, and she didn’t fall below standard with her sophomore album ‘After Da Storm’. Now more than a decade after she first hit the lime light, Adeshola Idowu who we have all come to refer to as Weird MC is about to make another statement.

‘Riranwo’- The first single off her third album was released on July 9, 2007 as a fore runner for the album, but for more than a year, Weird MC has been so quiet about the release of her album until October 2008 when she played a fast one on us with the release of the video for Riranwo.
‘Well, it is not like I intentionally wanted to be silent all these while, but the thing is that I have been working, I have been doing a lot of underground work, which will come to fore in a matter of months’
The second video off the album ‘Step Up’ was released last week and Weird MC is ready for a new dawn ‘The video was directed by DJ Tee, and we have really taken our time because I usually don’t like taking fans for granted. And from what we see now, I know I am good to go’ she said on a final note.
The video for Step up was conceptualized by Weird MC and was shot on 35mm for two days in South Africa. The video will rock the airwaves for weeks before the release of the album in March 2009 on her record label- 0907 entertainment.
Weird MC first gained national recognition in 1997 with her hit single ‘Allen Avenue’ which won her the awards for the best hip hop act at the first edition of the Awards for Musical Excellence (Amen awards) in October 2008, after which she went on a long sabbatical, and only made a come back in 2005 with her monster hit ‘Ijoya’.
